Wisdom and influence often come from our older wiser generations. They've expressed that if we want to seek valued treasures we should humbly look to someone who stands on higher ground than yourself. With the knowledge that you are a desendant of 'Rangiatea' (ancient Maori school of learning). The learning will awaken you and give adornment to your thoughts and wisdom to you language.

Launch of The Werry Centre

The Werry Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health was launched on the 14th of March 2003. We had received huge support to name the Centre after Professor John Werry. People came from far and wide to help us celebrate this wonderful occasion.

We had speeches from Hon. Annette King (Minister of Health), Robert Kydd (Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences), Sally Merry (Centre Director) and Professor John Werry himself who also awarded Hannah Ogilvie from Villa Maria College, Christchurch, our Centre Logo Winner, with the prize. We also had speeches from Joshua Taiatu who informed us about ADHD from a child's perspective, Mane Allen who moved us with the story of her children, and Penny Franklyn who read her poem about her struggle with depression.

We had performances from the children who formed the Cook Island Cultural group from Mangere Central School and a Maori Kapa Haka Group from Finlayson Park School.

We'd like to thank everyone who helped with the organisation and also all those who attended as they made the day a very memorable one for all of us.
