Clinical Assessment of Infants, Children, and Youth with Mental Health Problems: Guidelines for Mental Health Services in New Zealand
The four clinical assessment videos and accompanying resource folder was designed by a group of senior child and adolescent mental health professionals for the Mental Health Commission in 2000/2001.
The resource folder consists of a framework for use during the 'history taking' component of the assessment process and a number of appendices which provide detailed guidelines regarding specific components of the assessment process. The four associated videos support and supplement the resource folder. Suggested discussion points and recommended readings are also offered for the videos in the resource folder.

Clinical assessment of children and adolescents with mental health problems (Amy aged 5)
This video is an edited version of an assessment interview with 5 year old Amy and her family. Amy has been referred to the local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service by a pediatrician. She has a history of poor school attendance due to a number of physical complaints for which no medical cause has been found. The video is 40 minutes and in 3 sections:

- At 19:32 interview with Amy’s parents.
- At 29.31 interview with Amy.
This video is one of 4 videos that have been developed as a training guide for mental health professionals working within specialist child and adolescent mental health services. They are intended for use by people who have previously completed a clinical training programme associated with one of the recognized professional groups. The videos should be viewed in conjunction with the document titled “Clinical Assessment of Infants, Children and Youth with Mental Health Problems: Guidelines for Mental Health Services in New Zealand” (MHC 2000). It is not intended as a complete training package and should therefore be considered as one component of a comprehensive training or in-service education programme.
Clinical assessment of children and adolescents with mental health problems (Janelle aged 14)
This video is an edited version of an assessment interview with 14 year old Janelle and her mother. Janelle took an overdose of pills and is in the Emergency Department at the local hospital. She has been medically cleared and the mental health services have been asked to asses her prior to discharge. The assessment has been edited to focus on the sections of the interview to risk and sensitive issues.
The video is 59 minutes and in 3 sections:

This video is an edited assessment interview with 17 year old Josh and his uncle. Josh has been referred to the local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service by Police who are concerned about his behaviour. They have asked for an urgent mental health assessment. This video has been edited to focus on the sections of the interview related to the mental status examination.

“Coping Parents, Cooperative Kids!” Is a series of four videos available from the Werry Centre on evidence-based Parent Management Training (PMT). These videos were designed to train health professionals to train parents on PMT in 2002. The four videos feature Professor Alex Mabe, who is a Clinical Psychologist and an International Expert on PMT, based at the Medical School of Georgia, USA.

Children & Adolescents with Eating Disorders - Therapy for Mind and Body within a Developmental Framework
“Children and Adolescents with Eating Disorders: Therapy for Mind and Body within a Developmental Framework” is a video available from the Werry Centre on working with children and young people with eating disorders. The video was produced in 2004 and features Professor Brett McDermott, who is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist from the University of Queensland, Australia
