Dr. Trecia Wouldes

Director of Werry Centre Teaching and Senior Lecturer

Dr Trecia Wouldes is a Developmental Psychologist and a Senior Lecturer, based in the Department of Psychological Medicine in the University of Auckland. Her main research is the development of children born to mothers who have used drugs during their pregnancy. Trecia lectures undergraduate students in Behaviour, Health and Development, and lectures postgraduate students, offering the “Special Topic in Infant Mental Health, Early Environments and Nurturing Relationships”. She also co-ordinates the year2 MBCHD degree course, including the Child Development and Family Study component.

Dr. Sally Merry

Senior Lecturer

Dr Sally Merry is a senior lecturer in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Sally has worked in clinical psychiatry for over 15 years in both community and inpatient settings. She has a longstanding interest in teaching and was involved in establishing post graduate certificate and diploma courses for community mental health workers available in the University of Auckland. Sally has a special interest in anxiety disorders, teenage depression and early intervention.
She is currently principal investigator for studies of E-Therapy and Mobile Phone technology as interventions for young people with depression, and studies of effective interventions for infants with mental health problems.

Leah is a child & adolescent psychiatrist who has worked in CAMHS, Child and Family Unit and most recently in the Starship Consult-Liaison Team.

Leah has developed a late-life interest in improving her teaching and is completing a Certificate in Clinical Education through the University of New South Wales

Tania Cargo

I am a Clinical Psychologist, working at The Werry Centre and I am teaching on the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Programmes run by the Psychiatry Department. Being Maori, I am also involved in working with my colleague Rawiri Wharemate on issues that affect Maori working in the area of child and adolescent mental health. My clinical work has been with both adults and children in hospital, community and educational settings.

Vas Ajello

Lecturer and Coordinator of Support for Distance Students

I am a clinical psychologist based in Gisborne. I am the coordinator for two of the Certificate papers: 747 (C & A Development) which involves one teaching block in Auckland and 740 (C & A Psychopathology) which is entirely extramural. I also coordinate the Education Outreach project of the Werry Centre which aims to reduce the barrier of distance for students based at a distance from the education provider.

Mathijs Lucassen

Lecturer

Mathijs Lucassen, BOccThy, PGDipHSc (Child and Adolescent Mental Health), MHSc(Hons), NZROT, is an occupational therapist. In 2005 he published findings on his investigation into whether a workshop on child and adolescent mental health positively influenced nursing, occupational therapy and social work students’ career intentions.

Mathijs is currently a PhD student, he also tutors on a health psychology paper and supervises intern occupational therapists at the Kari Centre (Auckland DHB). Mathijs is investigating the usefulness of a computer-based therapy programme for same sex attracted youth with depression for his doctorate.

Terry Fleming

Lecturer

Terry joined the Werry Centre this year. She lectures on youth health in the Department of Paediatrics and is a clinical youth mental health social worker at Whirinaki (CMDHB Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service). Terry has a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), a PG Diploma and Masters in Health Science from The University of Auckland and a Diploma in Social Work from Auckland College of Education.
Currently, Terry’s PhD study is concerned with the appropriateness of computer game based CBT intervention for adolescents with depression who are outside of mainstream schooling and have high health needs.

Pauline Proud

Werry Centre Coordinator

Pauline works across the research, teaching and workforce development streams to assist with implemention of the Werry Centre's Strategic Business Plan. She has a background of providing management services, implementing information analysis systems and developing and delivering training for a range of public health and health promotion organisations. She has a particular interest in the development of new business opportunities, and extending the capacity of the Werry Centre.
