About Werry Centre Teaching
The teaching arm of the WC delivers postgraduate and undergraduate teaching through the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. http://www.fmhs.auckland.ac.nz/
When the Werry Centre was initially established in 2003, one of the main aims was to improve the mental healthcare of children and adolescents in New Zealand by ensuring that the workforce had access to training of a high standard. The Werry Centre has a national focus. Although it is part of the University of Auckland, it has a strong role in supporting educational institutions across New Zealand in their provision of training in child and adolescent mental health. In addition to this, it has been a trial site for the delivery of postgraduate training using distance and flexible teaching methods.
Postgraduate teaching:
Postgraduate teaching in child and adolescent mental health across the disciplines was established at the University in 1998. The teaching uses Cecil online web based teaching software for the core course and others are offered in a flexible learning format. These courses are available throughout the country following the establishment of teaching centres with local tutors co-ordinating and supporting the students. The certificate programme requires the student to pass 60 points from the relevant courses, and the diploma programme requires 120 points.
