Dr. Sally Merry
Director of Werry Centre Research
Dr Sally Merry is a senior lecturer in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Sally has worked in clinical psychiatry for over 15 years in both community and inpatient settings. She has a longstanding interest in teaching and was involved in establishing post graduate certificate and diploma courses for community mental health workers available in the University of Auckland. Sally has a special interest in anxiety disorders, teenage depression and early intervention.
She is currently principal investigator for studies of E-Therapy and Mobile Phone technology as interventions for young people with depression, and studies of effective interventions for infants with mental health problems.

Dr. Trecia Wouldes
Researcher and Director of Werry Centre Teaching
Dr Trecia Wouldes is a Developmental Psychologist and a Senior Lecturer, based in the Department of Psychological Medicine in the University of Auckland. Her main research is the development of children born to mothers who have used drugs during their pregnancy. Trecia lectures undergraduate students in Behaviour, Health and Development, and lectures postgraduate students, offering the “Special Topic in Infant Mental Health, Early Environments and Nurturing Relationships”. She also co-ordinates the year2 MBCHD degree course, including the Child Development and Family Study component.

Carolyn Ho
Study Manager
Carolyn joined the Werry Centre in 2008. She has a Bachelor of Science (Psychology), a PG Diploma and MSc in Health Psychology from The University of Auckland. She is based in the Department of Psychological Medicine and is working as a study manager as well as research assistant on the IDEAL (Infant Development, Environment and Lifestyle) Study led by Dr. Wouldes.

Karolina Stasiak
Study Manager
Karolina has been a member of the Werry Centre team for six years and works in the Department of Psychological Medicine. She has an MA in Psychology and has recently completed a PhD project on the development of adolescent-specific computerized therapy for depression. She is working as a research fellow on the youth e-therapy project led by Dr Merry; project ADAPT (prevention of adolescent depression using mobile phones) and a pilot study evaluating an intensive parenting programme (Hoki ki te Rito).

Mathijs Lucassen
PhD Student and Werry Centre Lecturer
Mathijs Lucassen, BOccThy, PGDipHSc (Child and Adolescent Mental Health), MHSc(Hons), NZROT, is an occupational therapist. In 2005 he published findings on his investigation into whether a workshop on child and adolescent mental health positively influenced nursing, occupational therapy and social work students’ career intentions.
Mathijs is currently a PhD student, he also tutors on a health psychology paper and supervises intern occupational therapists at the Kari Centre (Auckland DHB). Mathijs is investigating the usefulness of a computer-based therapy programme for same sex attracted youth with depression for his doctorate.

Terry Fleming
PhD Student and Werry Centre Lecturer
Terry joined the Werry Centre this year. She lectures on youth health in the Department of Paediatrics and is a clinical youth mental health social worker at Whirinaki (CMDHB Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service). Terry has a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), a PG Diploma and Masters in Health Science from The University of Auckland and a Diploma in Social Work from Auckland College of Education.
Currently, Terry’s PhD study is concerned with the appropriateness of computer game based CBT intervention for adolescents with depression who are outside of mainstream schooling and have high health needs.

Matt joined the Werry Centre in 2005 as a Maori Adviser for the Workforce Development Team. Now based with the research team, he is currently completing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Auckland University, studying the appropriateness for Maori of the E-therapy treatment for adolescents with depression.

Tania Cargo

I am a Clinical Psychologist, working at The Werry Centre and I am teaching on the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Programmes run by the Psychiatry Department. Being Maori, I am also involved in working with my colleague Rawiri Wharemate on issues that affect Maori working in the area of child and adolescent mental health. My clinical work has been with both adults and children in hospital, community and educational settings.

Kahu McClintock
PhD Student
Tainui, Taranaki, Ngati Porou
Kahu is currently completing a PhD thesis at Auckland University titled Te Tomokanga, Acceptable Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) for Maori in Aotearoa. She trained as a primary school teacher and has experience in special education and kaupapa Maori education. She also trained as a psychiatric nurse and the last position she held was in a kaupapa Maori CAMHS at Tauranga Hospital. More recently Kahu has worked as a researcher for Te Wananga o Aotearoa, Te Runanga o Kirikiriroa and Te Rau Matatini, the national Maori mental health workforce centre.

Kim Mariu
Research Fellow
Kim is an occupational therapist, who is currently employed as a Research Fellow at the University of Auckland. She has worked in CAMHS and both adult and older adult mental health settings in NZ and in the UK. Kim completed her Master’s Degree in Child and Adolescent mental Health, through the UOA and has spent the past three years teaching on the undergraduate Occupational Therapy programme at Auckland University of Technology.

Grace joined the Werry Centre in 2008. She has worked in alcohol and drug field for last two years. She has BA (Hons) in Psychology and is currently completing Master in Health Science at The University of Auckland. She is working as research assistant on the youth e-therapy project led by Dr Merry.

Pauline Proud
Werry Centre Coordinator
Pauline works across the research, teaching and workforce development streams to assist with implemention of the Werry Centre's Strategic Business Plan. She has a background of providing management services, implementing information analysis systems and developing and delivering training for a range of public health and health promotion organisations. She has a particular interest in the development of new business opportunities, and extending the capacity of the Werry Centre.
